WHAT IS IECO?

The IECO (Institute for Ethics in Communication and Organizations) is an institution that promotes ethical reflection and commitment for the improvement of society. It fosters a vision of humanistic management in organizations, which places people and their moral responsibility at the core of all activity. The aim is contributing to the common good and to human flourishing.

The Institute boosts dialogue between social sciences and philosophy. It seeks to revitalize ethical thinking in society and to promote the development of ethically healthy organizations and institutions, based on a holistic view of the person. IECO seeks to position itself as an international team of professionals and academics, united by the prospect of invigorating the ethical health of society from study, reflection and dialogue

The IECO was founded in 2009 by the COSO Foundation and it is affiliated with the University of Valencia. Since then, it has partnered universities in a great number of institutions of different countries to promote interdisciplinary research on the ethical dimension of human behavior, from both, an academic and a business environment.

IECO Institute at COSO FOUNDATION

The IECO was promoted in 2009 by the COSO Foundation at Valencia Community for the Development of Communication and Society.

The COSO Foundation is registered in the Foundations Register of Valencia with the number 268 (V), and defined as cultural. The Foundation was born by the interest of a group of practitioners from several Valencian communication media. Their goal was to improve communication through vocational training and research.

In 2009, the COSO Foundation director of programs at that time, Jesus Acerete, got in touch with University of Valencia Professor Manuel Guillen in order to launch a research group in the field of professional ethics. The Foundation president, José Luis Boronat, was heavily involved in this project too. Professor Guillén brought together professors Ignacio Gil and Alexis Bañón, both from the Polytechnic University of Valencia, to start the activities of the Institute.

At present the IECO Institute is integrated into the COSO Foundation to channel research, reflection and dissemination in matters of ethics in communication and organizations.
