CONFERENCE-Humanistic Management Conversations

What’s love got to do with it – Love and Organizing

The International Humanistic Management Association organizes this on line conference about the role of love in organizing, with distinguished panelists — David Sloan Wilson (Binghamton University, Evolution Institute), and Sigal Barsade (University of Pennsylvania).

Public culture is full of references to the power of Love, yet in business and management the word “love” is rarely used. The goal of this Panel Discussion is to broaden our individual and collective literacy for relevant concepts that can humanize management. We will hear from distinguished researchers and discuss a natural science perspective as well as an social science perspective to the role of love in organizing.

David is SUNY Distinguished Professor of Biology and Anthropology at Binghamton University. He applies evolutionary theory to all aspects of humanity in addition to the rest of life, both in his own research and as director of EvoS, a unique campus-wide evolutionary studies program that recently received NSF funding to expand into a nationwide consortium. His books include Darwin’s Cathedral: Evolution, Religion, and the Nature of Society, Evolution for Everyone: How Darwin’s Theory Can Change the Way We Think About Our Lives, and The Neighborhood Project: Using Evolution to Improve My City, One Block at a Time and Does Altruism Exist? Culture, Genes, and the Welfare of Others.
